YMCA de Mexico Partners with Blackbaud to Spread Culture of Philanthropy
Charleston, S.C. (Vocus) February 26, 2007 -- Blackbaud, Inc. (Nasdaq: BLKB), today announced that YMCA de Mexico will use The Raiser's Edge® to support new major fundraising initiatives in Mexico City and in locations across the country, including Tijuana, Chihuahua, and Leon.
Prof. Oscar Escalada Hernández, secretary general of the YMCA de Mexico, said, "We chose Blackbaud to help us support this major initiative because of their familiarity with both the European and U.S. approaches to philanthropy, the quality of their software and the high level of support service that the company provides to its clients."
"It is hoped that our efforts," continued Prof. Escalada, "will provide an illustration to the people of Mexico of the usefulness of a philanthropic model for our nation that has the concept of corporate social responsibility as its base."
The YMCA campaign, titled FYMEX, was begun in support of the YMCA World Service Organization, under the guidance of Renata Ferrari, assistant director, International Group, YMCA of the USA. The goal for the FYMEX campaign is to support four initiatives across the country and to use a centralized fundraising and constituent management system that will support those initiatives.
"The YMCA de Mexico has been serving the nation for over 100 years," said Prof. Escalada, "not only in such typical areas as physical fitness and community development, but in times of disaster as well. Our nation is growing beyond those typical needs and we hope to lead the effort in generating a spirit of corporate social responsibility. By using technology, such as that provided by Blackbaud, we will develop a system where giving options increase and where it makes it easier for all of us in Mexico, private citizens and corporate entities, to respond to the needs of the nation."
David Mendoza Plascencia, director of national philanthropy at the YMCA de Mexico, said, "The creation of CEMEFI (The Mexican Center for Philanthropy) in 1988 was a baseline in the organization of the philanthropic sector in Mexico, and we, at the YMCA de Mexico, have seen both the need and popular response grow since then. The need now is to broaden the professionalism in the sector and to continue to increase the awareness in the corporate community of the need for social responsibility and for the need to support it."
Blackbaud and the YMCA de Mexico jointly hosted an event with CEMEFI to share information about the Blackbaud solutions and the YMCA de Mexico project. This event was attended by eight different organizations in Mexico City that were interested in learning more about what Blackbaud could do to help their philanthropic missions.
"We are honored to partner with the YMCA de Mexico in providing the solution that will enable it to spread the culture of philanthropy throughout the country," said Marc Chardon, Blackbaud's chief executive officer. "Quite simply, the YMCA de Mexico is building on its community-centric mission, defining the idea of corporate social responsibility and paving the way for solid growth in the impact of the philanthropic sector in Mexico."
